The Champions face their darkest hour in this January 1978 Marvel issue, as the cover — penciled and inked by Ernie Chan — shows the full roster of Hercules, Ghost Rider, Iceman, Angel, and Black Widow surrounded and overwhelmed by a pair of massive, pink-helmeted Sentinels bearing down on them from all sides. The cover copy spells it out plainly: "The Sentinels Are Attacking And It's… The Champions' Last Stand!" It's a striking, kinetic image that captures the sheer scale of the threat facing this unlikely team, making it a satisfying entry in one of Marvel's more distinctive team titles of the era.
