“The Economy Is So Bad That...”

The Champions face a serious threat in this April 1976 entry from Marvel's most eclectic super-team — the cover banner proudly names Hercules, Black Widow, Angel, Ghost Rider, and Iceman, and the scene delivers on that promise with a chaotic battle against the armored villain Rampage tearing through what looks like a vault or industrial space, cash flying everywhere. Black Widow moves in from the left while a winged Angel is sent crashing back by the impact, and the powerfully built Rampage dominates the foreground, smashing through machinery with explosive force — all rendered with punchy energy by cover penciler Rich Buckler and inker Frank Giacoia. Tony Isabella scripts the interior with art by Don Heck, making this a solid mid-70s Marvel package for anyone who loves a team-book with genuine variety in its roster.
