The Champions #3
This February 1976 issue throws the fledgling Champions — Hercules, Black Widow, Iceman, Ghost Rider, and Angel — headlong into a mythological brawl titled "Assault on Olympus!" The cover by Rich Buckler and Dan Adkins is a wonderfully chaotic spread: a bare-chested Hercules trades blows with armored Olympian warriors in the foreground while Iceman, Black Widow, and a flaming-skulled Ghost Rider on his motorcycle fight through the melee behind him, as two god-like figures watch from above, one lamenting that he is powerless to help. With five very different heroes caught between mortal combat and divine condemnation, this is Marvel's most eclectic team delivering exactly the kind of larger-than-life spectacle the title promises.
