Warren Pleece
Warren Pleece is a British comics artist best known for his moody, expressive work on DC’s Vertigo imprint and for illustrating the *Zom-B* novel series (2012–2016). Born in the United Kingdom, he entered comics in the late 1980s, bringing a gritty, textured line that suited the darker corners of the medium. His most prominent work includes the series *Deadenders*, *Kinetic*, and *Hellblazer*, where his shadow-heavy style and knack for urban decay became hallmarks. He also contributed to the historical mystery *Incognegro: Renaissance*, collaborating with writer Mat Johnson. Among his notable co-creations is the character Mobfire, introduced in the 1990s. Pleece’s career spans from 1988 to 2022, with credits as artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer across 96 issues. His collaborations often paired him with writers who favored psychological depth and social commentary. Later in life, he remained active in independent and mainstream projects, though his Vertigo work remains his most recognized. Pleece has not received major industry awards, but his influence is felt in the brooding visual language of 1990s and 2000s alternative comics. His legacy lies in his ability to render the mundane and the monstrous with equal gravity, leaving a distinct mark on British comic art.
