Zane attends a literary party in Harlem and meets black author Xavier Harris, who is frustrated at white author Arna Van Horn for writing about Harlem. Xavier leaves the party and is later found dead in a bathtub, his manuscript soaked by the water. Zane doesn't believe it was suicide.
