Vince Locke
1966–
Vince Locke, born in 1966, is an American comic book artist best known for his stark, visceral work on the horror series *Deadworld* and the graphic novel *A History of Violence*. His distinctive, high-contrast style—often drenched in shadow and unsettling detail—also gained notoriety through his ultraviolent album covers for death metal band Cannibal Corpse. Locke entered comics in the mid-1980s, with his earliest credited work appearing in 1986. Over a career spanning more than three decades, he has contributed as artist, colorist, inker, and letterer on over 75 issues, with notable runs on *Sandman Mystery Theatre*, *The Unwritten*, *Baker Street*, *The Realm*, and *2000 AD*. He also illustrated the Vertigo series *American Freak: A Tale of the Un-Men*. A frequent collaborator with writer John Wagner, Locke co-created the graphic novel *A History of Violence*, which was later adapted into a major film. His later work includes coloring and inking for various publishers, maintaining a presence in the industry through 2021. Locke’s legacy is defined by his unflinching, atmospheric art and his ability to bring grim narratives to life with a raw, unforgettable intensity.
