Cover artist Yuko Shimizu renders a young girl in Victorian dress — frilled bonnet, layered skirts, lace-up boots — suspended by puppet strings against the red velvet curtains of the "Teatro delle Marionette," her wide eyes and tangled white strings conveying something between wonder and unease.
