Vince Fago
Vince Fago, born Vincenzo Francisco Gennaro Di Fago on November 28, 1914, in an unspecified location, was an American comic-book artist and writer best known for his role as interim editor of Timely Comics—the company that would become Marvel Comics—during Stan Lee’s military service in World War II. He passed away on June 13, 2002.
Fago entered comics through the animation field, eventually heading Timely’s animator bullpen, a separate division from the superhero line. This group specialized in talking-animal and movie-tie-in comics, producing titles like *Terrytoons Comics*, *Mighty Mouse*, and *Animated Funny Comic-Tunes*. His collaborators there included Ernie Hart, David Gantz, Chad Grothkopf, George Klein, Pauline Loth, Jim Mooney, Kin Platt, Mike Sekowsky, Moss Worthman, and future *Mad* cartoonists Dave Berg and Al Jaffee.
His signature style leaned toward lighthearted, cartoonish fare, evident in his most-credited titles: *Monkeyshines Comics*, *Buster Bunny*, *Happy Comics*, *Barnyard Comics*, *Coo Coo Comics*, and *Krazy Komics*. Later in his career, Fago oversaw Pendulum Press’ Now Age Books line, which adapted literary classics into comic book form. His work remains a footnote in Golden Age history for bridging animation and comics during a pivotal era.
