"Ernie the Earthworm" by Lil K. Scott follows an earthworm who befriends Freddie Fox and, when the fox family becomes trapped in their den by a landslide, helps them escape by digging new passages and finding the quickest route to safety, earning praise from Freddie for his heroism.
When a stubborn papa bear decides no one—not even his wife—will stop him from going hunting, he sneaks off with his son Alfred for what promises to be the trip of a lifetime, traveling far from home to find the perfect game. As the pair trek deep into the wilderness searching for deer and pheasants, their hunting expedition takes one humorous turn after another, testing their patience and marksmanship in unexpected ways. This 1947 tale proves that sometimes the best-laid hunting plans come full circle in the most ironic fashion.
