Eufronio Reyes Cruz, born in the Philippines in 1934, built one of the most quietly distinguished careers of any Filipino artist to work in American mainstream comics. He came to prominence during the wave of Filipino talent that entered the U.S. market in the early 1970s, finding a natural home at DC Comics, where editors were actively seeking skilled illustrators for their expanding anthology titles.

Cruz became a reliable presence across DC's mystery and horror lines, contributing to series such as *The Witching Hour*, *Ghosts*, and *Horror* — atmospheric titles that rewarded his careful, controlled linework and his ability to sustain dread across a short story format. His versatility extended well beyond the supernatural, however; credits on *Jonah Hex* demonstrated a command of Western storytelling, while work on *The Savage Sword of Conan* showed he could handle sword-and-sorcery equally well. He also worked on *Sable*, rounding out a body of work that touched nearly every genre corner of the American comics market.

Over a career spanning from 1972 to at least 2017 — a remarkable run of more than four decades — Cruz accumulated credits as artist, inker, and letterer across more than two hundred issues. That longevity speaks to both his craftsmanship and his adaptability, qualities that made him a dependable contributor long after many of his contemporaries had moved on.
