DC's long-running anthology of eerie "true" tales delivers another unsettling installment with this November 1974 issue, cover by Nick Cardy. A smugly grinning man tries on a tricorn hat while a horrified woman recoils beside him — all under the looming reach of a skeletal, hooded specter — with speech bubbles warning "Please! Don't mock the dead!" and "Those hats are cursed!" as grinning skulls line the foreground. Four stories are promised inside, including "The Phantom Laughed Last," "Fruit of the Hanging Tree," "The Ghost Goes Home," and "The Hellfire Club," illustrated by E. R. Cruz — plenty of supernatural dread for just twenty cents.
