Aragorn
Aragorn is a winged horse created through genetic alchemy by the scientist Dane Whitman's uncle, Nathan Garrett, who spliced avian and equine DNA to produce the flying steed. Whitman later inherited the animal when he took up the mantle of the Black Knight.
Few Silver Age Marvel debuts carry quite the mythic charge of Aragorn, who first soared into readers' imaginations in The Avengers #48 back in 1968, courtesy of Roy Thomas and George Tuska. This winged marvel has graced the pages of The Defenders, The Avengers, and Giant-Size Defenders across an impressive 57-year publishing history, keeping legendary company alongside Valkyrie, the Hulk, Captain America, and Brunnhilde. With Avengers membership on the rΓ©sumΓ© and nine key-issue appearances to the name, Aragorn is a genuine Silver Age treasure β the kind of character that rewards the collector who digs a little deeper into Marvel's rich, sprawling mythology.
