Alexi Shostakov
Alexi Shostakov was a celebrated Soviet test pilot and cosmonaut who was secretly recruited by the KGB and trained to become the Red Guardian, the USSR's answer to Captain America. He served as a covert operative for the Soviet state, his very existence hidden from the outside world.
Forged in the crucible of Marvel's Silver Age, Alexi Shostakov made his debut in The Avengers #43 in 1967, brought to life by the legendary creative duo of Roy Thomas and John Buscema. A Marvel figure who has kept remarkable company over the decades — sharing pages with Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Natasha Romanoff herself — Alexi has carved out a presence that spans nearly six decades, from 1967 all the way to 2026. With appearances across Black Widow, Amazing Adventures, and Ultimate Wolverine, and at least one collector-recognized key issue to his name, this Avengers-affiliated character rewards the dedicated reader willing to dig into the deeper corners of Marvel's rich continuity.
