The issue deepens Roy Thomas's multi-part Inhumans arc — the first extended solo run for Black Bolt's royal family outside of Fantastic Four guest slots — with Neal Adams delivering some of the most kinetically inventive superhero artwork of the early decade on the cover and interior Inhumans segment. On the Black Widow side, Don Heck's street-level thriller continued Marvel's then-radical experiment of giving Natasha Romanoff a standalone espionage feature entirely removed from her Avengers context, helping establish the template of the self-sufficient Black Widow that would define her for decades. The issue also introduces Lionel Dibbs — a terminally ill, social-justice-motivated antagonist whose arc would extend through three issues and eventually involve Thor — a quietly ambitious bit of socially conscious Bronze Age storytelling.

Amazing Adventures vol. 2 launched in 1970 as one of Marvel's 'split books,' pairing Inhumans stories (initially written and drawn by Jack Kirby) with Black Widow solo adventures in a single anthology title. By issue #5, Roy Thomas had taken over scripting both features, and Neal Adams — whose increasingly detailed, anatomy-forward style was then reshaping expectations for superhero art — stepped in as Inhumans penciler, with John Verpoorten inking his pages for the Inhumans strip and Sal Buscema inking Don Heck's Black Widow segment. Stan Lee served as editor throughout this run. The Inhumans story in #6 is the second chapter of a seven-part arc that Thomas and Adams were building across issues #5–8 before the Inhumans' thread was resolved in Avengers #95 during the Kree-Skrull War.
