About the series
Loosely adapting the British monster movie of the same name, Charlton Comics' Gorgo ran for 23 issues from 1961 to 1965, chronicling the adventures of the giant, reptilian creature as he rampaged across the globe. The series is a prime example of the early-1960s monster comic craze, with most issues scripted by prolific writer Joe Gill. While Bill Montes and Joe Sinnott contributed to the art, it's Steve Ditko's distinctive, eerie pencils on several early issues that make the series a notable footnote in monster comics history, capturing the creature's raw power just before Ditko co-created Spider-Man.
