Gorgo #23
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeCharlton's kaiju comic takes a prehistoric detour in this September 1965 issue, as the cover — rendered by Rocco "Rocke" Mastroserio — depicts the great sea creature Gorgo and a menacing green dragon-like beast squaring off amid rocky canyon walls under a fiery orange sky, while a lone scientist scrambles to safety on the cliffs below. The cover text sets the scene perfectly: Gorgo and his unlikely human companion have drifted back through the "River of Time" into the "Land of Long Ago," where monsters ruled the earth. It's a wonderfully vivid prehistoric showdown that captures everything that made Charlton's monster titles such a treat in the mid-1960s.

A scientist named Dr. Howarth had invented a time machine. He took pity on Gorgo and decided the best thing to do was use his machine to send Gorgo back to the prehistoric era where he could be with his kind. However he accidently gets transported back with Gorgo. They see numerous dinosaurs with Gorgo saving Howarth from a Ceratosaurus and later a monster Pterodactyl. The radiation from the machine wears off and the two slowly travel forward in time going through the ice age and an 18th century war in Europe before they return safely to the modern world.
