Rachel Pollack

Rachel Pollack was an American writer and tarot scholar whose work in comics, science fiction, and esoteric studies left a distinct mark on each field. Born Rachel Grace Pollack on August 17, 1945, she passed away on April 7, 2023. She is best remembered in comics for her acclaimed run on *Doom Patrol* in the 1990s, where she took over from Grant Morrison and brought her own surreal, mythic sensibility to the series. Her other notable credits include *New Gods*, *Time Breakers*, and the one-shot *Vertigo Visions - The Geek*. Over a career spanning from 1993 to 2022, she wrote 43 issues, often collaborating with artists like Tom Peyer and Richard Case. Pollack co-created the character Coagula, one of the first openly transgender superheroes, reflecting her lifelong advocacy for LGBTQ+ representation. Beyond comics, she authored several novels and was a leading authority on tarot, writing definitive guides on the subject. Her work earned her a place in the Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame in 2023. Pollack’s legacy is one of boundary-pushing creativity, blending the fantastical with the deeply personal.
