Doom Patrol #83

Doom Patrol #83 arrives under the unsettling tagline "Thanks for the False Memories…" with a cover by Kyle Baker that leans into the surreal with characteristic wit. Dominating the foreground are two mummy-wrapped figures locked in a grinning, oddly cheerful embrace — one sporting a cowboy hat and clutching what appears to be a red toy gun — while a crowd of strangely ordinary party guests mill about in the background and a costumed figure perches atop a grand building behind them. Rachel Pollack's "Remembrance of Lives Passed" promises the kind of beautifully strange storytelling that made DC's Vertigo imprint such a compelling corner of comics in 1994.
