Under Rachel Pollack's pen and the art team of Scot Eaton and Tom Sutton, Doom Patrol's Vertigo era delivered some genuinely strange and wonderful comics — and issue #70 is a fine example of that spirit. Tom Taggart's photo-realistic cover presents a costumed figure in an elaborate gadget-laden chest piece and a goggled helmet, flanked by two wide-eyed women who look equal parts startled and intrigued, all set against a gritty brick wall backdrop. "The Laughing Game" promises exactly the kind of offbeat, mature-readers energy that made this September 1993 run so distinctive.
