Kurtis J. Wiebe
Kurtis J. Wiebe is a Canadian comic book writer best known for creating the fantasy series *Rat Queens*, which he launched with artist Roc Upchurch through Image Comics in 2013. Born in Canada, Wiebe broke into the industry in the early 2010s, writing *Peter Panzerfaust* for Image before turning to the rowdy, foul-mouthed adventurers of *Rat Queens*. That series earned a 2014 Eisner Award nomination for Best New Series and won the 2015 GLAAD Media Award, with Wiebe scripting the book through its early arcs. His other notable works include the sci-fi miniseries *Debris* and the crime thriller *Pisces*. Wiebe collaborated with a rotating roster of artists on *Rat Queens*—including Upchurch, Stjepan Šejić, Tess Fowler, and Owen Gieni—with Moritat and Casey Silver later joining the title. After writing the series for most of its run, he stepped away in mid-2019, handing the book to Ryan Ferrier. Wiebe’s career in comics was relatively concentrated, with most of his credited work appearing between 2012 and 2019, but *Rat Queens* remains his signature, celebrated for its irreverent humor and diverse ensemble.
