Richard Blinken-Smythe
A former Cambridge sociology don who abandoned academia for a life of outlaw biker criminality, Richard 'Dick' Blinken-Smythe became one of Zartan's Dreadnoks — a savage mercenary swamp-rat whose specialty is his diamond-tooth chainsaw, capable of cutting through steel and most metals.
Richard Blinken-Smythe made his entrance in the thick of the Bronze Age, debuting in the landmark G.I. Joe, a Real American Hero #25 in 1984 — a Larry Hama and Frank Springer creation dropped into one of Marvel's most beloved action franchises at the height of its cultural moment. Over more than four decades of publication, he's accumulated 62 catalog appearances across G.I. Joe, G.I. Joe, a Real American Hero, and even the wild crossover territory of G.I. Joe and the Transformers, proving he's no one-issue curiosity. Five of those appearances carry key-issue status, which means collectors have good reason to pay attention when his name turns up in an index. He shares pages with a memorable cast including Zartan, Torch, and Ripper — a rogues' gallery that signals he moves in genuinely dangerous company — making Richard Blinken-Smythe a figure well worth tracking down for any serious G.I. Joe completist.
