“Do Not Forsake Me!”

From the November 1976 cover by Herb Trimpe and Dan Adkins, this is a striking confrontation: the Hulk crouches protectively over a fallen blonde woman as the armored Crypto-Man looms over them both, weapon in hand and boasting "I possess… the power to destroy the Hulk!!" The urban battlefield setting and the tagline "On the city streets, death is waiting!" give the whole scene a tense, street-level urgency that pulls you straight in. With Len Wein scripting and Sal Buscema on interior art, Incredible Hulk #205 looks like a genuinely gripping chapter in the Jade Giant's 1970s heyday.
