The Golden Collection of Klassic Krazy Kool Kids Komics #[nn]
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis 2010 hardcover from IDW and Yoe Books gathers a selection of vintage comic strips and stories from the early-to-mid 20th century, spotlighting the wild, whimsical, and often surreal humor aimed at young readers. Featuring rare and reprinted material from classic newspaper and comic book sources, the volume showcases the offbeat creativity of lesser-known cartoonists alongside more familiar names, all curated for their nostalgic charm and historical significance in children's comics.
"Adventures of Tom Plump" delivers a delightfully absurd twist on the classic cartoon trope, featuring Wilbur Fox and a mysterious ghost bird that only appears when someone’s knocked out—literally. With Jack Bradbury handling both art and inks, the story unfolds with playful energy, anchored by a surreal premise where the bird’s very existence depends on Wilbur’s repeated unconsciousness. The cover, a collaborative effort by Larry Riley and John Liney, captures the zany spirit of the tale in vibrant, exaggerated style.

Wilbur Fox trips and knocks himself out. The "ghost bird" that appears and tweets when someone is knocked unconscious decides he wants to be a real bird, but that means he has to repeatedly club Wilbur over the head so the fox won't regain consciousness (at which time the bird fades away). Wilbur convinces the bird to visit a boxing gym where someone is always knocked out, so the bird can always exist.
