Roy Thomas provides historical context and commentary for these pre-Code tales of the costumed heroine, who fought crime with her signature black costume and a ray gun. The volume reprints material from Police Comics #1-23 and Phantom Lady #13-17, showcasing the work of creators including the Eisner & Iger Studio and artist Matt Baker's iconic cover art.
In "The Coming of the Phantom Lady," the legendary hero Phantom Lady receives a cryptic challenge from the enigmatic Spider Widow, setting off a tense showdown that neither woman fully understands. With both women drawn into a deadly game orchestrated by a hidden criminal gang, the stage is set for a clash of wills—and a dangerous deception that could cost one of them everything. Frank Borth’s dynamic artwork brings the early days of these iconic heroines to life, while Pete von Sholly’s striking cover captures the intrigue and suspense of their fateful rivalry.
