“Woozy Winks Detective Agency”

In "Woozy Winks Detective Agency," Jack Cole spins a playful, self-referential dream sequence where the comic’s own creator appears as a stuttering, nervous bystander. With Plastic Man dreaming of a team-up between Woozy Winks and a fictionalized Jack Cole, the story unfolds as a surreal mystery involving the crooks Abba and Dabba, all rendered in Cole’s distinctive, expressive style. The cover by Jack Cole captures the whimsical chaos of the tale, a 10-cent gem from 1943.

Cole writes himself into the story as a stuttering dweeb: a dream tale in which the heroes are knocked out by an explosion. Then Woozy instructs Cole to draw the faces of crooks Abba and Dabba for a "wanted" poster while Plastic Man dreams of Woozy Winks and Jack Cole teaming up to stop the two villains. Cole's un-named and obscured publisher frees him from the crooks.
