Rom Epic Collection: The Original Marvel Years #3
In "Some Day My Prince Will Come, or... Enter: The Sub-Mariner!", Rom’s long-lost humanity is restored—only to be a fleeting gift as the cloned body begins to fail. With Quasimodo now wearing Rom’s armor and turning on his former allies, chaos erupts as Dr. Dredd and Starshine clash with the armored figure, unaware of the truth beneath the shell. As the dying human Rom fights for breath and Brandy in the Starshine armor recognizes him in his final moments, the line between man and machine blurs in a moment of heartbreaking revelation. Written by Bill Mantlo and illustrated by Sal Buscema, with inks by Akin and Garvey, colors by Ben Sean, and letters by Janice Chiang, the cover by Bill Sienkiewicz captures the tension in a striking, dynamic image.

Quasimodo has cloned a copy of Rom's human body and turned him into a man once again. Rom is thrilled until his new body begins to rapidly deteriorate. Quasimodo possesses Rom's vacant space armor and turns on the Wraiths he was allied with. Dr. Dredd and Starshine show up and begin to battle Rom, not realizing it is now someone else inside of the armor. Starshine drives Quasimodo from Rom's body as the dying human Rom chokes out Dredd. Brandy (who is now in the Starshine armor), recognizes the decaying human as Rom just as he collapses in the throes of death.
