New X-Men #3
"Assault On Weapon Plus Part One: Brimstone & Whiskey" marks a pivotal moment in Grant Morrison’s run on New X-Men, as Marc Silvestri’s dynamic art brings the cosmic horror of the Sublime to life—revealing the ancient, sentient bacteria colony that has quietly shaped evolution. With Joe Weems’ inks adding depth to every shadow and a haunting color palette by Steve Firchow, Beth Sotelo, Brian Buccellato, and John Starr, the issue builds dread and revelation in equal measure. The cover by Marc Silvestri and Joe Weems captures the tension perfectly, setting the stage for a story where memory, sacrifice, and the future of mutantkind hang in the balance.

Sublime is really a sentient bacteria colony from the dawn of Earth, living inside all other forms until Mutants emerged as the first species that might challenge it. As the X-Men fall in battle against the Sublime-possessed Beast, they manage to reawaken Jean's true memories. She extracts and extinguishes Sublime, and manifesting as a White Phoenix of the Crown reaches back through time, telling Scott to live. Back in the present, we see Scott and Emma's graveside conversation once again, but this time when Emma asks Scott to stay with her and reopen the school, he kisses her and says "Yes".
