Invincible #40
Invincible #40 finds Mark Grayson mid-brawl on a cover by Ryan Ottley and Bill Crabtree that crackles with kinetic energy — the blue-and-black-suited hero squares off fists-raised against a massive, NASA-badged opponent whose body is grotesquely overtaken by writhing pink tentacles. Ottley's linework fills every corner with those creeping tendrils and scattered wreckage, giving the whole image a wonderfully unsettling sense of scale. Robert Kirkman's series was already earning its cheeky cover boast — "Probably the Best Superhero Comic Book in the Universe!" — and issue 40 looks like a strong argument in its favor.
