Robert Kirkman brings his sharp eye for superhero storytelling to Capes, Volume One: Punching the Clock, a 2007 Image Comics collection illustrated entirely by Mark Englert. The cover lays out a vivid cast: a determined, blue-suited hero streaks forward fist-first against a city skyline, flanked by a snarling lizard creature, a grimacing grey-skinned villain, a stars-and-stripes-clad figure, and a crowd of costumed heroes and trainees filling the lower panel. It's a confident, energetic introduction to what looks like a superhero world with real texture and a whole lot of personalities to keep track of.
