A somber cemetery scene sets the tone for this 2004 Image Comics chapter, as a crowd of costumed heroes — including Invincible himself, a large green-skinned figure in a red tie, a masked hero with pointed ears, and a star-spangled warrior among many others — gather in quiet mourning before a gravestone. Ryan Ottley's clean, expressive linework and Bill Crabtree's muted color palette give the scene a restrained emotional weight that's rare in superhero comics. Robert Kirkman's series was already proving it could balance superhero spectacle with genuine human feeling, and this cover says everything without showing a single punch thrown.
