Invincible #6
Invincible #6 marks the first appearances of Black Samson and the Reanimen — two characters whose narrative threads would reverberate across the entire 144-issue run of the series. The Reanimen introduced here are the embryonic seed of a long-running subplot involving D.A. Sinclair, the reclusive Upstate University scientist who created them, ultimately contributing to one of the series' darkest personal crises for Mark by issue #50. The issue also quietly introduces Rick Sheridan, whose later transformation into a Reaniman and recovery gives Kirkman space to tell one of the series' most emotionally grounded supporting-character arcs — and who goes on to date William, making their relationship one of the earliest prominent gay romances in a mainstream superhero title. As the penultimate issue drawn by co-creator Cory Walker before Ryan Ottley took over with #8, it represents the final stretch of the book's founding visual identity.

Invincible #6 was written by Robert Kirkman and drawn by co-creator Cory Walker — who penciled the first seven issues before stepping away from regular art duties, with Ryan Ottley assuming the role starting with #8. Colorist Bill Crabtree rounded out the core creative team, and the issue includes bonus pin-up pages by Scott Iwahashi and Jason Latour. Published by Image Comics in October 2003, the issue was marketed as a self-contained 'jumping-on point' for new readers during a period when the series was building momentum as the premier title in Image's revived superhero line. The issue falls within the story arc later collected in the trade paperback Invincible Vol. 2: Eight Is Enough (collecting issues #5–8), which also introduced the Guardians of the Globe.
