About this Collection
This Epic Collection gathers the earliest Marvel Conan stories, reprinting the first issues of the 1970s series that brought Robert E. Howard's Cimmerian to comics. It includes the debut of Conan in the Marvel Universe, adapted from Howard's original tales by writer Roy Thomas and artist Barry Windsor-Smith, establishing the savage Hyborian Age adventures that defined the character for a new generation.
Conan the Barbarian: The Original Marvel Years Epic Collection #1 kicks off with "The Sword and the Sorcerers!" — a thrilling tale written by Roy Thomas and Robert E. Howard, illustrated by Barry Smith with inks by Sal Buscema and Dan Adkins. When Conan rescues Lady Aztrias of Numalia from wolves, she hires him to steal a mysterious bowl from the wealthy merchant Kallian, only to have him framed for Kallian’s murder. The real threat lies within the bowl itself: a serpent-man with a human head, and a vision of the ancient sorcerer Thoth-Amon looms in Conan’s mind. Cover by Barry Windsor-Smith and John Verpoorten sets the tone for this classic adventure.
