Rick Hoberg (born Richard Renick Hoberg, June 7, 1952) is an American comics artist, inker, writer, and animator whose career in the industry stretches across more than four decades. He broke into comics in the late 1970s and built a steady reputation as a versatile craftsman comfortable across multiple genres and publishers.
Star Wars #2 (1977)
Over the course of his career, Hoberg racked up credits on nearly two hundred issues, with his most sustained work appearing on titles such as Green Arrow, All-Star Squadron, New Gods, The Strangers, and Eternity Smith. That range — from DC's superhero mythology to independent genre work — speaks to his adaptability as both a penciler and inker. His involvement with The Strangers and Eternity Smith also placed him among creators exploring original concepts outside the major publisher mainstream.
What If? #5 (1977)
Alongside his comics work, Hoberg maintained a parallel career in animation, a discipline that shares considerable craft overlap with sequential art storytelling. His dual footing in both fields gave his page compositions a strong sense of movement and staging.
Star Wars #4 (1977)
Active from 1977 through at least 2018, Hoberg represents the kind of reliable, skilled professional whose contributions kept beloved titles running issue after issue — the backbone of the medium even when the spotlight lands elsewhere.
