Mel Keefer was an American comics artist and illustrator, best known for the long-running newspaper strip *Mac Divot*. Born Melvyn Keefer on July 2, 1926, he began his career in the 1950s, working steadily through 1979. Over nearly three decades, he contributed to dozens of comic book issues, with his most frequent credits appearing on titles such as *Monty Hall of the U.S. Marines*, *Tell It to the Marines*, *Great Lover Romances*, *Mickyvision*, *Battle Stories*, and *Fernseh Abenteuer*. His clean, expressive linework and knack for visual storytelling made him a reliable presence in both war and romance genres. Keefer’s signature achievement was *Mac Divot*, a golf-themed comic strip that showcased his light touch and humor. He was a lifetime inductee into the Inkpot Award, recognizing his lasting contributions to the medium. Keefer died on February 11, 2022, leaving behind a body of work that reflects the breadth of mid-century American comics.
