A new addition to Sergeant Hall's outfit, Rookie Wonder from the leagues, raises concerns that baseball could become a dangerous weapon against the Reds. In "The Swat Parade," Hall directs his men to stop goofing off and prepare the mortar for action, while noting suspicious activity in the surrounding trees and rocks that may require reconnaissance. The issue also includes the backup feature "Pin-Up Pete," a comedic segment depicting soldiers attempting to set up their friend Pete with Flora, a florist, to improve his romantic prospects.
When a C.I.C. agent is murdered on fog-shrouded Monju Island, Sergeant Monty Hall must identify a fellow prisoner who can help stop an armed breakout planned for that very night. With a Communist submarine waiting offshore and weapons hidden throughout the compound, Monty races against the clock to coordinate with his undercover contact and neutralize the threat before the prisoners make their move. This tense 1953 adventure pits Marine ingenuity against Communist cunning on a remote Korean outpost.
When rookie ballplayer Spud Riggs joins Sgt. Monty Hall's Marine outfit in Korea, he's reluctant to risk his pitching arm in combat—until Hall discovers that the kid's throwing arm might be just what they need against enemy positions. As Riggs learns that baseball skills can translate to battlefield tactics, Monty and his men must use every trick in the book to support a trapped Allied platoon and turn the tide of a dangerous firefight.
When Monty Hall's dog tags end up in the wrong hands after a surprise enemy attack near a Korean river, a government scientist finds himself mistaken for a Marine prisoner of war—and the Reds won't hesitate to extract atomic secrets from their high-value captive. Monty volunteers for a dangerous twelve-hour rescue mission to an enemy-held island, but retrieving the scientist and his lost tags proves far more complicated than a simple extraction. With time running out and discovery imminent, Monty faces an impossible choice that could change everything.
