With the host's jewels in jeopardy, Tootsie must think fast to outwit the intruder. C. C. Beck handles both pencils and inks for the story, bringing his signature style to this 1952 adventure, while Mel Keefer's cover captures the moment of suspense with sharp, dynamic lines.
Monty Hall and his Marine buddies are assigned to escort showman Tony Thayer and his USO troupe—including starlet Lorna Jade—on a tour of Korea, but what should be a cushy break from combat turns into genuine danger when the unit gets stranded at a frontline regiment under Colonel Ferguson's command. As battle looms and the entertainers find themselves caught in a sniper-ridden zone, the Marines must shift from stagehands to soldiers to keep everyone alive through the night.
Tex, a Marine ready to rotate home, is assigned to lead Sergeant Braga and his replacement unit through a training patrol—but their dry run turns explosively real when they encounter actual enemy forces instead of pretend ones. As Tex and the stubborn, battle-hardened Braga clash over tactics, they'll have to put aside their friction and work together to get the green troops through their first real combat experience alive.
Tex brings home a small golden idol from Korea as a souvenir for his father, but strange attempts to steal it soon follow—drawing Monty and Canarsie back to Texas to help solve the mystery. When they discover the idol may be connected to a smuggling ring operating out of an abandoned mining town, the three Marines find themselves caught between foreign agents and something far more dangerous hidden in the old mine.
