Malachy Coney

Malachy Coney is a comics writer and cartoonist from Belfast, Northern Ireland, best known for his work on *The Darkness* and its related series during the late 1990s. Born in 2000, he grew up in the Ardoyne area of north Belfast. His path into comics began in the early 1990s, and he was active as a writer from 1993 to 2000, contributing to 43 issues across titles such as *The Darkness*, *Darkness*, *Tales of the Darkness*, *The Spirit of the Tao*, *Holy Cross*, and *Vampirella Monthly*. Coney’s writing often blended supernatural themes with gritty, character-driven narratives, and he collaborated with artists like Marc Silvestri on *The Darkness*. He is credited as co-creator of the character Jackie Estacado, the central figure in *The Darkness*, alongside Silvestri and Garth Ennis. After his run on *The Darkness*, Coney’s later life and legacy remain less documented, but his contributions to the Top Cow universe are recognized by fans of ’90s horror-action comics.
