The cover of this December 1998 Top Cow/Image release sets a brooding, atmospheric tone — Jackie Estacado looms large at the center, his Darkness armor bristling with jagged, living tendrils, surrounded by a pack of grinning, mischievous Darklings who clutch weapons and crowd the rocky perch beneath him. The stormy crimson and purple sky behind them gives the whole image a sense of barely-contained menace, rendered here in cover pencils by Marc Silvestri with inks by D-Tron. Writers Garth Ennis and Malachy Coney kick off "Hearts of Darkness Part One," promising a fresh chapter for one of the late '90s' most visually striking supernatural titles.
