John Semper Jr.
John Semper Jr. is an American screenwriter and producer best known as the head writer and showrunner for *Spider-Man: The Animated Series*, the 1990s cartoon that shaped a generation’s view of the web-slinger. He is also credited as the creative originator of the "Spider-Verse" concept—the idea of a multiverse of Spider-people—which later became a cornerstone of Marvel comics, animation, and film. Born in the United States, Semper began his career in television animation, working as a story editor and writer before taking the helm on the *Spider-Man* series. His work there, particularly in weaving multi-part story arcs and character-driven plots, earned him a lasting reputation. In comics, Semper wrote for *Cyborg*, *Spider-Man Adventures*, and *Cyborg: Rebirth*, with his credited comics work spanning from 1994 to 2018. He collaborated with artists and editors to bring a serialized, cinematic feel to the page. Later in his career, he continued to write for animation and comics, contributing to the legacy of characters he helped define. While he has not received a major industry award like an Eisner, his influence is widely acknowledged through the enduring popularity of the Spider-Verse concept.
