Emma Ríos
1976–
Emma Ríos Maneiro was born on April 1, 1976, in Vilagarcía de Arousa, Spain. She is a Spanish comics artist, writer, and editor whose work has appeared with major American publishers such as Marvel, Image, and Boom! Studios. Ríos is best known for her ongoing series *Pretty Deadly*, written by Kelly Sue DeConnick, which earned her multiple Eisner Award nominations for Best Penciller/Inker/Artist and Best Cover Artist in 2014, and a win for Best Cover Artist in 2020. She also co-created the series *Mirror* with Malaysian artist Hwei Lim. Her distinctive, atmospheric style—often blending delicate linework with rich, moody colors—has made her a sought-after collaborator. Among her most credited titles are *Pretty Deadly*, *Osborn*, *Hexed*, and *Strange*. Active in the industry from 2008 to 2020, Ríos has also worked as a colorist, inker, letterer, and writer. Outside of comics, she is a practitioner of rapier fencing, specializing in La Verdadera Destreza. Her work continues to influence a generation of artists drawn to her lyrical, emotionally resonant storytelling.
