Pretty Deadly #1
From Image Comics in 2013, Pretty Deadly announced itself as something genuinely different — a dark, mythic Western with an aesthetic all its own. Emma Ríos's cover depicts a figure suspended upside-down, blood-streaked and trailing across a rose-pink, flooded landscape edged with wild grasses, the whole image saturated in Jordie Bellaire's hauntingly beautiful crimson palette. Kelly Sue DeConnick, Ríos, Bellaire, and letterer Clayton Cowles form a creative team that clearly came to do something bold, and this first issue is exactly the place to discover what that means.
