“Evil Incarcerated [Part Three]”

The third chapter of Kelly Sue DeConnick's five-part "Evil Incarcerated" series delivers a genuinely unsettling image courtesy of cover artist Ben Oliver: a gleaming, armored figure crouches in the foreground while a snake-haired Medusa-like creature lunges from the left, all rendered in an eerie teal palette that makes the warmly lit pair of prisoners standing in a doorway behind them feel almost impossibly vulnerable. Emma Ríos and colorist José Villarrubia bring that same atmospheric tension to the interior pages, making this limited series one of the more visually distinctive Norman Osborn stories Marvel published in 2011. If you've been following this run, issue three is clearly raising the stakes in compelling, unsettling ways.
