Ríos's cover is a striking study in silhouette — a winged figure entwined with a bare, wind-twisted tree rises above a tumbling mass of shadowy forms, all set against a backdrop of flame-red, with scattered birds cutting through the smoke-grey sky. N.K. Jemisin called the series "a masterpiece of mythopoeism," and this 2019 opener from Image suggests the haunting, folklore-drenched atmosphere is very much intact.
