Maverick
A mutant operative born Christoph Nord, he served with the CIA and the West German resistance cell known as Cell Six before joining the covert Weapon X program alongside Wolverine and Sabretooth as Team X. His mutant ability to absorb and redirect kinetic energy made him a formidable field agent and mercenary.
Bursting onto the scene in 1993 courtesy of Fabian Nicieza and Mike McKone, Maverick is a Marvel creation of the Copper/Modern Age who has proven himself a quietly enduring corner of the X-Men universe — 50 catalog appearances across more than three decades is no small feat for a character who debuted in X-Men Unlimited. His world is unmistakably Wolverine's world: he shares pages with Logan himself, Hank McCoy, and the Beast, placing him firmly in that gritty, morally complex territory where mutant intrigue runs deep. With a key issue already to his name and a presence stretching into Benjamin Percy's celebrated Wolverine run and the recent Wolverine: Blood Hunt, Maverick is the kind of find that rewards the collector who digs a little deeper into Marvel's rich modern mythology.
Real name. Christoph Nord (originally "David North")
Powers. Mutant kinetic energy absorption, redistribution and conversion (later lost/restored); enhanced healing factor; no discernible scent; also a master marksman, hand-to-hand combatant, tactician, espionage and demolitions expert.
