During a battle in the early part of the new millennium, the X-Men experienced a phenomenon known as "lost time" and ended up in the year 2017 after the battle. The issue of normal humans versus mutants had been washed out by advances in the field of genetics. By the year 2030, Scott & Jean Summers retired from protecting the world and are the proud parents of Charles and Jeannette. The rest of the X-Men are still on active duty, but no major villains or conflicts have arisen since the turn of the millennium. So, the X-Men find themselves with more and more free time to do as they like.
