Silver Streak Comics
Lev Gleason [1930s-1950s] · 1939–1946 · 23 issues
About the series
From 1939 to 1946, Lev Gleason’s Silver Streak Comics roared through 23 issues as a bold Golden Age anthology, most vividly defined by Jack Cole’s manic energy and Bill Everett’s atmospheric art. Its flagship feature, the monstrous Claw—a giant, claw-handed villain—dominated early issues, while the original, non-Marvel Daredevil (Bart Hill) debuted as a swashbuckling hero. The series also cheekily folded in the licensed adventurer Simon Templar (The Saint) and even a caricatured Adolf Hitler, blending pulp thrills with wartime propaganda. Though short-lived, it matters as a wild, influential showcase of pre-superhero creativity and a launching pad for Cole’s signature zany style.
