First full team appearance of the Marauders as a group: Arclight, Harpoon, Riptide, Scalphunter (John Greycrow), Scrambler, and Vertigo all appear together for the first time (Vertigo had prior appearances as a Savage Land Mutate; the others debut here or in #210).
Riptide is killed in this issue — snapped by Colossus in the tunnels — making his death the same issue as his first full appearance.
Colossus kills Riptide in rage, marking the first time the character takes a life in anger rather than as a last resort, a turning point in his characterization.
Shadowcat (Kitty Pryde) is struck by Harpoon's energy lance while shielding Rogue and becomes permanently locked in her phased state, unable to solidify — an injury that sidelines her from the active X-Men roster for an extended period.
Nightcrawler, already weakened from a prior battle with Nimrod, is left comatose by Riptide's spinning shuriken assault; he and Shadowcat eventually depart to form Excalibur.
Psylocke (Betsy Braddock), then a recent arrival at Xavier's school following her debut in New Mutants Annual #2, plays a key story role by telepathically reading the dying Morlock's memories and relaying the massacre to the X-Men.
