“The Morning After”

In "The Morning After," part of the X-Men: Mutant Massacre Omnibus, Chris Claremont and Alan Davis deliver a gripping chapter where the X-Men are captured and forced to infiltrate the Citadel of Light and Shadow to retrieve the Crystal of Ultimate Vision. Trapped in a labyrinth of their deepest desires, only Wolverine resists the temptations, leading to a climactic confrontation where a single drop of his blood awakens the crystal’s power—ushering in a transformation he never sought. The cover by John Romita Jr. and Bob Wiacek captures the moment’s intensity, while the interior art by Davis, with inks by Neary and colors by Oliver, brings the dreamlike dread and high stakes to life.

Horde captures the X-Men and forces them to infiltrate the Citadel of Light and Shadow to give him access to the Crystal of Ultimate Vision which he plans on using to turn himself into a god. The X-Men are tempted by their fondest dreams and wishes along the way but Wolverine is able to resist. He confronts Horde in the crystal's chamber and they battle. A drop of Wolverine’s blood touches the crystal first and he is transformed into an omnipotent being. Realizing that he is not cut out for godhood, he destroys both the crystal and citadel.
