The issue arrived as part of Marvel's ambitious 'Brand New Day' publishing experiment, in which Amazing Spider-Man shifted to a thrice-monthly schedule under a rotating 'Brain Trust' of writers — Dan Slott, Marc Guggenheim, Bob Gale, and Zeb Wells — each taking three-issue arcs, all overseen by editor Stephen Wacker and executive editor Tom Brevoort. Wells had previously written Spider-Man in supporting capacities and was completing his exclusive Marvel contract; this arc was his formal entry into the Brand New Day rotation.
