Savage Dragon #3
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeSavage Dragon #3 (August 1993) delivers the first appearance of Ann Stevens as Mighty Man, the second host of an ancient superpowered entity whose true identity Larsen kept deliberately hidden from readers — a long-running mystery that became one of the series' most discussed subplots. The issue also introduces The Fiend and its human host Charley McArthur (who dies in the same issue), along with The Fiend Entity possessing Arnold Dimple, laying the groundwork for one of Dragon's most persistent supernatural antagonists. Packed with nearly a dozen character introductions across both hero and villain rosters, it exemplifies Larsen's rapid world-building approach in the opening months of the ongoing series. The unofficial television cameo of Homer Simpson and Ned Flanders — visible on a waiting-room TV — is an early example of Larsen's habit of embedding pop-culture Easter eggs throughout the book.

The ongoing Savage Dragon series launched in June 1993 off the strength of a three-issue miniseries Larsen had published through Image Comics in 1992, itself a reworked version of a childhood creation he had been developing since the early 1980s. Issue #3, cover-dated August 1993, was produced entirely by Larsen as writer, penciller, and inker — consistent with his practice of solo creative control that has defined the series throughout its run. Jannie Wong served as editor, Chris Eliopoulos lettered, and Reuben Rude, Steve Oliff, and Xan Micka provided colors. The story picks up a beat after the crossover with the Savage Dragon / TMNT one-shot, placing Dragon in a Chicago that has fallen apart during his absence.
